Disability grants can help Canadians suffering from a permanent physical or mental disability. They may help to cover living expenses, school and even help save for the future.
Disability grants in Canada provide financial assistance to those who have suffered from permanent debilitating disabilities. There are many resources available to help those with disabilities; so many that we couldn’t possibly fit them all in one article. This is more of a jumping off point you can use when research disability grants in Canada.
The Canada Pension Plan, also known as CPP, provides benefits to those who suffer from a disability that are under 65 and have paid into the Canada Pension Plan. This program will only benefit those who have stopping working due to a medical condition which has caused the disability.
The CPP Disability Vocational Rehabilitation Program provides counseling, financial support as well as job services for people who are disabled. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program aims to help people return to work who are disabled. They provide advocates who are able to help the disabled deal with their everyday problems and help get them back on their feet.
The BCEA (BC Employment and Assistance Disability Benefits) provides help to any adult over 18 years of age who suffers from a physical impairment that reduces their ability to perform every day activities at work and at home. They also help people who suffer from mental disabilities and illness. Benefits include monthly payments, assistance finding a shelter, medical coverage, bus passes, career planning and even job training and placement.
There are also many grants available for people who are disabled who would like to further their education. Federal government grants in Canada will cover up to $2000 in expenses per year associated with tuition, books and more. People with disabilities may also qualify for up to $8000 year to help cover education related expenses such as tutors, interpreters, technical aids and more for the disabled in the classroom. There are also programs available which offer student loan forgiveness of up to $1000 for disabled students financing their education.
A newly created program called the Registered Disability Savings Plan also allows the disabled and the families of the disabled to receive up to $4500 a year with a $1500 deposit. This allows the disabled and their families to save for future expenses associated with a disability.
